Founder's Quad

Royal Holloway’s main campus is located in Egham, Surrey, at the site where Thomas Holloway, a Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist, founded Thomas Holloway College in 1886. It was the second higher education college for women in Britain. In 1900 it was admitted to the University of London along with Bedford College, which, established in 1849 by social reformer Elizabeth Jesser Reid, was the first higher education college for women in the country. In 1985 the two colleges merged to form Royal Holloway and Bedford New College.

Among the most famous graduates of the institution is the almuna Emily Wilding Davison, a leader of the Suffragette movement who graduated from Thomas Holloway College in 1892. She was imprisoned numerous times and involved in extreme protests that included an attack on the Chancellor of the Exchequer and several hunger strikes. Her most notable action resulted in her death, when she jumped in front of King George V’s horse during the 1913 Epsom Derby.

Ariel campus

The main campus is situated in 135 acres of parkland. It is home to 9500 students (around 7500 undergraduates) and 1700 academic and administrative staff from all over the world. Its 24 academic departments include a full range of arts, humanities, science, and social science disciplines. It is regularly ranked among the top higher education institutions in the UK.

The main conference site will be the Windsor Building, located just east of Founder’s Building and on the other side of Founder’s Square. Its Auditorium, which holds up to 400 people, is the largest on campus. The building also holds eight large seminar rooms where parallel paper panels will be presented. Other panels can also be held in nearby buildings.

Directly across from Windsor Building is the new Emily Wilding Davison building, which features the main library (holding 400,000 books), student union shop, and an art exhibition space.
